Os Vingadores!

Day 48 - 09.06.12 Porto

One annoying thing about Portugal is that supermarkets or even corner shops don’t exist within towns and cities.  They seem to only be on the outskirts, in giant shopping centres or as huge hypermarkets.  This can make things quite difficult for us.  We were advised by the tourist office as to the location of the nearest supermarket to us and so on our second day in Porto we set off to find it.  The walk turned out to be an uphill climb on a humid morning that lasted almost an hour.  On our arrival we found a very small and quite expensive mini mart.  Gutted.  We bought a couple of things and headed home disappointed but determined to christen the oven with a lunch of lasagne and chips.  After such a long wait, it was so tasty!

The afternoon was rainy and dismal.  After a tiring morning we enjoyed just relaxing in the van and staying dry.  In the evening we set about another uphill climb to the huge shopping centre to go to the cinema.  I’d read in the guide book about Portuguese cinemas showing films in their original language with Portuguese subtitles and having checked this at the tourist office was VERY excited about catching up on the summer blockbusters our friends had been raving about back home.  The walk took about an hour in the drizzly rain but The Avengers was completely worth it!  We also saw some boxer puppies in the pet shop and grabbed a few food bits at the supermarket too.

The walk home showed us the beauty of Porto by night as all the buildings and the main bridge are lit up.  Sadly I don’t think my camera did the sight justice but it really was just beautiful.
