Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.

Day 9 - 01.05.12 – San Sebastian

San Sebastian has an incredible coastline.  The curving beach goes on for miles and is very well kept.  The city itself is more bustling than we’d remembered and a huge protest was going on as we wandered through the centre.  We had of course seen all the sites before but went for another look at the cathedral and main church, both of which are very impressive.  The weather is glorious and afternoon temperatures easily hit 25 degrees.  The sun is very strong even until six or seven at night and the skies are a brilliant blue.  It’s great to breathe in the sea air and feel the sand between our toes.

San Sebastian is a city with a lot of money and some spectacularly huge houses on the outskirts where we were parked up.  The streets also have numerous communal toilet and shower blocks which are immaculately clean.  We popped in for a shower at the cost of a euro each.

Our aire was quiet and friendly.  We got chatting to a Leicestershire family on their way to Disneyland Paris with their young daughter.  It has to be said we both enjoyed a chance to chat to someone in English given that we’ve been feeling a little cut off of late.  Nonetheless there is a strong feeling of camaraderie at aires and fellow campers will often wave when they see you in town.  We’re missing home comforts a little and both feel somewhat out of sorts.  The camper life is taking a little more getting used to than we’d expected and it has been a bit hard to relax.
